Tasting notes: Plum preserves, dried cherry, sweet tea.

In the Cup
This exceptional lot from Kayanza showcases the bright, clean profile that makes Burundian coffee a standout in East Africa. In the cup, you can expect lots of sweetness and a vibrant yet balanced cup. Notes of stone fruit (as in a plum preserves), a touch of dried cherry, and a gentle cane-sugar sweetness that lingers, like sipping on a refreshing summer tea - provide a refreshing, fruit-forward coffee with depth and clarity.
Origin
High in the mountains of Kayanza Province, Incuti grows in rich volcanic soils surrounded by rainforest and smallholder farms of tea, banana, and cassava. This high-elevation region is known across Burundi for producing elegant, expressive coffees — and Incuti is no exception. Traditional washed processing highlights clarity and balance, while careful drying preserves its vibrant character.
The Producer
Incuti means ‘friend’ in Kirundi — a fitting name for a coffee that began when a Cup of Excellence winner reached out to Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian of JNP Coffee, our importing partner, inspired by their farmer-focused programs.
Jeanine’s visit to the farms revealed not only exceptional coffee but also the determination and vision of the producers. What started as a simple introduction has grown into a deep partnership built on respect, transparency, and shared purpose. Today, Incuti stands as both a beautiful coffee and a celebration of friendship — between farmers, their communities, and coffee drinkers around the world.
